The lot comprises a unique assortment of formats of Château Mouton Rothschild 2022, which is generally acknowledged to be an outstanding vintage in Bordeaux: six bottles, three magnums, a double magnum whose label will be signed by the artist and the members of the owning family, an imperial, and the only Nebuchadnezzar available to date, together with two exclusive experiences:

THE OCCASION
On the occasion of the reveal of the artwork created for the Château Mouton Rothschild 2022 label, Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA and Christie’s are organising an online auction of an exclusive lot for the benefit of Sauveteurs en Mer - SNSM, the French sea rescuers, at the Port-Médoc station at Le Verdon-sur-Mer, where the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde estuary meet.

The charity’s mission is to rescue anyone in danger at sea or on the coast, in metropolitan France and in French overseas departments and territories. It is the only organisation with the necessary skills and qualifications to operate from the shoreline to the open sea. It has nearly 11,000 volunteers attached to 206 sea-rescue stations throughout s France, as well as 32 training and operations centres and 229 lifeguard stations.

The proceeds from the auction will be used to provide the new seagoing vessel at the Port-Médoc station with communication equipment. This type of boat is particularly well-suited to operations at sea and in coastal areas, including offshore search-and-rescue missions, ensuring crew safety, and maritime and surveillance patrols. The communication equipment acquired (autopilot, infrared camera, sonar, nautical chart readers, etc.) will help to ensure safe navigation, increase operational effectiveness and facilitate interactions between emergency services.



THE ORIGINAL ARTWORK
Baron Philippe de Rothschild wondered in his autobiography Vivre la Vigne, published in 1981, whether anyone would think to celebrate the centenary of his arrival at Château Mouton Rothschild?

His question has been answered: the label for Château Mouton Rothschild 2022, illustrated with an original artwork by the French artist Gérard Garouste, is indeed the tribute that Baron Philippe had hoped for.

Baron Philippe de Rothschild took the helm of the estate in 1922, and to celebrate the anniversary of a founding moment in its history, Gérard Garouste, in his own symbolic, phantasmagorical way, has created a sort of heraldic banner for Mouton Rothschild, its front wall framed by a portrait of Baron Philippe and a ram, his well-known emblem.

Gérard Garouste drew his inspiration from conversations with Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild and from the photographs of Baron Philippe he was shown. After playing with various ideas in his sketchbooks, the idea of a portrait of Baron Philippe, accompanied by the symbols of the ram, the front wall and the vine, soon came to the fore. The work took shape as a gouache which he naturally chose to call Hommage au Baron Philippe [Tribute to Baron Philippe].

THE EXPERIENCES
The winning bidder and three guests will be invited to the reveal of the label for Château Mouton Rothschild 2023, which will be held at the estate in late 2025 and attended by the family and the artist chosen to illustrate the label for that vintage. The guests will also be given a private tour of Château Mouton Rothschild, followed by a tasting of wines from the estate.

In addition, the winning bidder will have the opportunity to attend one of the events in the famous SailGP international sailing competition, in a VIP box with three guests of their choice.

This sale will close on Wednesday, 11 December, at 4:00PM CET, ten days after the official revealing of the artwork for the 2022 label.

A l’occasion du dévoilement de l’œuvre créée pour l’étiquette de Château Mouton Rothschild 2022, une vente aux enchères en ligne d’un lot exclusif est organisée par Baron Philippe de Rothschild S.A. en collaboration avec Christie’s, au profit des Sauveteurs en Mer - SNSM de la station de Port-Médoc, basée au Verdon, à la lisière de l'Atlantique et de la Gironde.

Cette association à but non lucratif a pour vocation de secourir toute personne en danger en mer et sur les côtes, en France métropolitaine et Outre-mer. Elle est la seule structure qui dispose des compétences et qualifications nécessaires pour intervenir conjointement depuis la plage jusqu’au large. Elle s’appuie sur près de 11 000 bénévoles qui œuvrent à partir de 206 stations de sauvetage sur tout le territoire français, 32 centres de formation et d’intervention et 229 postes de secours sur les plages.

Les bénéfices de cette vente serviront à équiper en matériel de communication le nouveau navire hauturier de la station de Port-Médoc. Ce type de bateau est particulièrement adapté pour les interventions en zones océaniques au large et en zones côtières, telles que la recherche et le sauvetage de personnes en mer, la mise en sécurité des équipages et les patrouilles maritimes ou de surveillance. Les équipements de communication ainsi acquis (pilote automatique, caméra infrarouge, sonar, lecteurs de cartes marines…) permettront une navigation sécurisée, optimiseront l’efficacité des interventions et faciliteront les échanges entre les différents services de secours.



L'ŒUVRE INÉDITE
Le baron Philippe de Rothschild se demandait dans son autobiographie Vivre la Vigne, parue en 1981, si on penserait à fêter le centenaire de son arrivée à Château Mouton Rothschild.

Vœu exaucé : l’étiquette du millésime 2022 de Château Mouton Rothschild illustrée d’une œuvre inédite de l’artiste français Gérard Garouste est bien cet hommage qu’espérait le Baron Philippe.

C'est en effet en 1922 que le baron Philippe de Rothschild prit les rênes du château. Pour cet anniversaire d’un moment fondateur de l’histoire de la propriété, Gérard Garouste, dans sa manière symbolique et onirique, a conçu un véritable blason de Mouton Rothschild, dont le Fronton est encadré par un portrait du Baron et un bélier, son emblème bien connu.

L’inspiration de Gérard Garouste est venue de ses échanges avec Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild et des différentes photos du Baron Philippe qu’il a pu consulter. Ebauchant différentes pistes de création sur ses carnets, l’idée du portrait du Baron, accompagné des symboles forts du bélier, du Fronton et de la vigne s’est rapidement imposée. Concrétisée sous la forme d’une gouache, il a naturellement choisi de la nommer Hommage au Baron Philippe.

L'EXPÉRIENCE
L’acquéreur et trois convives seront invités à la soirée de révélation de l’étiquette de Château Mouton Rothschild 2023, en fin d’année 2025 à la propriété, en présence de la Famille et de l'artiste qui aura illustré l’étiquette de ce millésime. Ils bénéficieront également d’une visite privée de Château Mouton Rothschild suivie d’une dégustation des vins de la propriété.


L’acheteur aura également l’opportunité d’assister avec trois invités de son choix, à l’une des épreuves de la célèbre course à la voile internationale Sail GP, en loge avec un accueil VIP.
