"Einstein's report on the constitution of radiation at the physics meeting in Salzburg in 1909, where he appeared before a larger audience for the first time, can be considered as one of the landmarks in the development of theoretical physics" (Pauli, "Einstein's contribution to quantum theory," in Albert Einstein Philosopher-Scientist,1949). There was a near contemporary printing of this paper in the Physikalische Zeitschrift, X, 817-825, but this one was issued with about a month's precedence. BRL 28.
