The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas, stretcher and attachments appear to be in generally good condition. There is tape along the turnover edges which is lifting in places. There is a glossy varnish layer with a very fine layer of surface dust. There are sparsely distributed areas of mold spores. There are some minor tension cracks to the extreme edges with associated pinpoint paint losses in places. There are some minor cracks to the thicker impasto in places, most visible to the white passage in the left half of the composition. When examined under ultraviolet light, there are small spots to the upper and lower extreme horizontal edges and to the white passage in the left half of the composition that fluoresce in a manner consistent with retouching. Subject to the foregoing, it is our view that the work appears to be in generally good condition. The work would benefit from a surface cleaning.
