The canvas is supported with a glue lining and the paint is stable on the support. Under natural light, the varnish is slightly cloudy and a fine craquelure is visible in places. Scuffing from frame contact is visible along the lower edge. Under ultraviolet light, a 1 inch area fluoresces on the step along the lower edge, 9 inches from the left edge. Additional strengthening is seen over the left foot of the figure in gold at right, as well as over some damage at upper right, on the curtain above the rightmost figure. The painting could be displayed as is.
