Details
A large slice from a gorgeous complete section of the Sericho 2016 meteorite, showing high density of glassy, translucent peridot within the stony-iron metal matrix. This is one of several large slices cut with extreme care some years ago, the majority of which are now in Chinese museums. It was purposefully cut to be very thin, to allow more light to be transmitted through the transparent peridot zones. This truly is the "gemstone from space" and this is a large, volumetric example of a classic pallasite type meteorite. This was obtained from a private meteorite collection within China. A relatively modern find, discovered by accident in 2016 (the rumor says by a camel caravan that noticed unusual stones), although it had been here for much longer waiting to be found. While common in small sizes, this is a large, museum sized display piece that because of its size and mass ratio, has a lot of visual impact; and is suitable to wall mounted and backlit display styles.
