According to Gustav Schiefler, Kirchner created his woodcut as a title image for the periodical Zeit im Bild. It was however rejected and never printed in an edition. All other known impressions are now in public collections (Städel Museum, Frankfurt am Main; Staatliche Kunsthalle, Karlsruhe; Gore Rifkind Center, County Museum of Art, Los Angeles; Buchheim Museum, Bernried).

In addition to the catalogue description: - with wide margins and a deckle edge at right, presumably the full sheet. - the sheet prepared prior to printing with pink watercolour background, quite watery, presumably with a sponge or cloth. - a short and unobtrusive, backed tear (circa 10 mm.) at the left lower sheet edge. - a tiny area of surface abrasion with associated ink loss, above a dancer's head (second from left). - some very minor, pale staining at the upper sheet corners, presumably caused by old hinges. - some partially broken vertical creases along the deckled left sheet edge. - small and unobtrusive fox marks in the margins. - a spot of black printer's ink in the right margin and other small spots in the lower margin, - hinged with paper tape at the upper sheet edge verso. Otherwise as described and in very good condition. Framed (with glass).
