In the early 1980s, Sendak adapted his stories Where the Wild Things Are and Higgelty Piggelty Pop! into opera libretti with music by Oliver Knussen. The works premiered as a double bill at the 1985 Glyndebourne Festival. Sendak's beloved dog Jennie, the protagonist of Higgelty Piggelty Pop!, adorns the present artwork used in the production design.
