Lot Essay

The Rolex Day-Date Ref. 18038 was manufactured from 1977 to 1988 and marked the introduction of the first Day-Date model with a single-quickset date function, thanks to the Cal. 3055 movement that powered the watch. Unlike the Ref. 1803, which used an acrylic crystal, the 18038 comes with a sapphire crystal.

Stone dials take a prominent position within the highly esoteric sub-set of Day-Date collectors and within this niche Onyx dials tend to be the most sought-after examples. The inky black stone dial forms a handsome contrast with the yellow gold case. This particular piece showcases a striking Onyx dial and is in excellent condition. Additionally, it features a calendar in Spanish.
