The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. The texture of the paint has, to some degree, been affected by the relining process. The illustrative quality of the composition remains appreciable. In natural light retouchings to each edge of the canvas are clear, though these are covered when framed. There is an old, discoloured varnish that carries some dirt, this would benefit from cleaning. Examination under UV light confirms the aforementioned retoucing. There is some further retouching to the lower edge of the painting in the sandy tones of the beach. The varnish precludes further examination. The paint is stable.
