Lot Essay

Extremely rare and under-the-radar, at first, the present Rolex Daytona "Moonraker" reference 16520 may appear as a standard model, but a closer inspection reveals its unusual combination of elements from references 16520 and 116520. Unlike standard 'Zenith' Daytonas, this model has silvered register rings found in the successor model 116520 (circa 2000-2016) and while keeping the running seconds register at 9 o'clock, a combination only possible in this specific prototype "test" dial. Furthermore, the watch utilizes tritium lume in the hands and hour markers which help determine its early lineage before the successor model was officially launched.
