拍品的状况可能存在极大差异，而由于其性质使然，拍品难以处于完美无瑕的状态。拍品均以拍卖时的状况出售。

The painting is executed on canvas which has been relined. It is held under tension and remains stable. A minor convex bow to the lower centre and lower right of the canvas is evident when seen from the reverse, possibly as a result of previous relining.

Examination in natural light reveals a lively composition, with well-preserved details in the figures and architecture. Two minor historic scratches upper centre, of circa 4cm do not appear to have disturbed the paint layer. Examination in UV confirms the above and reveals at least two campaigns of minor retouching in the sky. Further retouching is visible along the upper, lower and right edges, presumably as a result of historic frame abrasion. Some minor strengthening is visible in the boats far left, in details of the architectural arches lower right, and in the sea. A historic repaired tear of circa 7 cm is visible lower right, running diagonally. It is not visible from the reverse due to relining. Aspects of the technique appear well-preserved including some impasto in the white tones and incisions in the paint to describe the architectural contours. The decorative qualities of the painting remain fully appreciable.
