Lot Essay

In 1936, Trabert & Hoeffer-Mauboussin emerged in the American jewelry market as the collaboration between Trabert & Hoeffer, a prominent New York jeweler known for their innovative designs, and Mauboussin, a prestigious Parisian jewelry house with a rich heritage dating back to the early 19th century. The joined forces created highly stylized pieces of the late-Deco and mid-century periods, attracting notable clientele that included Marlene Dietrich, Joan Crawford and Greta Garbo. Though the partnership came to an end in 1953, the legacy of their inventive designs has remained to date. The present lot is an exceptional example of Trabert & Hoeffer’s later designs from the 1950s in which dazzling round and baguette-cut diamonds form fluid lines of articulated cascades, a popular motif of the time.
