This painting is executed on canvas that has been suppored on the reverse by a glue lining. The paint layer is stable under a varnish that has become cloudy in some areas with age. In natural light broad areas of restoration are visible in the sky and background. Finer touches are visible to the figure of Saint John. All of the aforemention retouches are visible in ultraviolet light and many of them are visible in the catalog image. The work can be hung in its present state and is offered in a carved, painted and silver gilt frame.
