Lot Essay

Patek Philippe launched the Ellipse Reference 3738/100 in 1984 even though the Ref. 3738 first appeared in 1978. It was offered in yellow or white gold initially and later on in pink gold too.

Dials were usually made in solid gold and collectors broadly classify the entire production into four series. The present timepiece, produced in 2008, is from the last series of production (from the year 2005) and is powered by the automatic Cal. 240.

An icon of timeless style and elegance, the Ellipse was also presented in a variety of bracelet styles and was a fixture in the Patek catalogue till it gave way to the larger Ellipse reference 5738.
