FURTHER DETAILS
Founded in 1874 by Georges Piaget in La Côte-aux-Fées, Switzerland, Piaget established its first showroom in 1959 at 40, rue du Rhône in Geneva. The brand quickly earned a reputation for producing the world's thinnest watches and for its distinctive cases and bracelets crafted exclusively from 18K gold or platinum—materials the company exclusively permits in its workshops. A trailblazer in integrating gemstones into watchmaking, Piaget is known for its vibrant dials made from materials such as lapis lazuli, coral, mother-of-pearl, tiger’s eye, and onyx, offering a colorful and diverse appeal to an increasingly style-conscious clientele.
The watch presented here is a striking example of the “Esclave” model from the iconic "Manchette" collection, introduced in the early 1970s. Designed for a youthful, avant-garde female audience, these timepieces are distinguished by their bold, cuff-like bracelets—shaped like cones when worn—and the use of unconventional dial materials.
This particular model was featured in the exhibition Montres et Merveilles – 200 créations rares provenant du Musée de l'horlogerie de Genève et des Collections Privées Piaget, held in Geneva from 13 April to 28 August 1994.
