The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall this garniture is in good decorative order with only minor surface scratching and the occasional minute chip to rims / footrims.
Vases in order of catalogue image, left to right.
Vase 1 – three facets to neck sprayed with lacquer (two heavily discoloured), presumably concealing restoration.
Vase 2 – overall in good decorative order.
Vase 3 – the cover a later replacement, possibly made at Meissen. The vase with restoration to neck, presumably concealing cracks or breaks. There are definitely two crescent shaped sections broken and restuck to the neck (approx. 5 cm. long). The remaining facets may just be covered in associated spray. The interior with visible long firing cracks (not visible to exterior).
Vase 4 – minute re-gilt rim chip and a few very small losses to green enamels.
Vase 5 – the cover with one corner of rim broken and restored with slightly discoloured overpainting (approx. 4 cm. long). There is a wonderful concave firing flaw disguised as a cave in the decoration to one side.
This lot has been XRF tested.
