La toile a fait l'objet d'un rentoilage, elle est maintenue sous une tension adéquate et reste stable. Vue du revers, la toile présente un certain nombre de déchirures réparées, la réparation à la colle ayant traversé la toile de rentoilage. Il y a sept autres déchirures mineures dans la moitié inférieure de la toile, mesurant 6 cm et 17 cm respectivement. Il y a une déchirure plus importante en haut à droite, vue du verso, qui semble avoir été une perforation de la toile, mesurant 17 x 12 cm. Cette dernière est également visible du côté pictural de la toile. La toile est stable.
À la lumière naturelle, on peut voir une couture de toile horizontale sur toute la longueur de la toile, à 13 cm du bord supérieur. Les couches de matière se sont quelque peu amincies à la suite du processus de rentoilage. Il y a un fin réseau de craquelures dans les carnations.
L'examen sous lumière UV révèle des retouches éparses dans les passages sombres de l'arrière-plan. D'autres petites retouches éparses se trouvent dans les passages plus pâles et dans le costume du modèle. Le visage semble bien conservé et son modelé est tout à fait appréciable. La matière reste stable.

The canvas has been subject to relining, it is held under adequate tension and remains stable. Viewed from the reverse, there is evidence of a number of repaired tears, were the glue repair has come through to the relining canvas. There are seven more minor tears to the lower half of the canvas, measuring between 6 cm and 17 cm respectively. There is one more important tear at upper right, as seen from the reverse, that appears to have been a puncture to the canvas, measuring 17 x 12 cm. This latter can also be seen from the pictorial side of the canvas. The canvas is stable.
In natural light a horizontal canvas seam can be seen running the length of the canvas 13 cm from the upper edge. There has been some thinning to the paint layers as a result of the relining process. There is a fine pattern of craquelure in the flesh tones.
Examination under UV light reveals scattered retouching overall in the dark passages of the background. There is some further minor scattered retouching in the paler passages and the sitter's costume. The face appears to be well preserved, and its modeling is fully appreciable. The paint remains stable.
