The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Oil on canvas. Strip lined. Slightly varnished. Some masking tape along the canvas overlap. Some minor frame abrasion with associated areas of rubbing, possible small paint losses and gold paint remnants along the edges. Two canvas wears towards the lower right corner and a further one at the tip of the upper right corner. Some networks of stable craquelures in places, mainly in the sky and in the thickest pigments, probably inherent to the artist’s dry technique. A few drying cracks in the black pigments of the central figure’s head. A few potential small paint losses in places (mainly in the trees and towards the centre of the field). On the reverse: three small patches. Examined under ultraviolet light: a few passages of fluorescence corresponding to the aforementioned gold paint remnants and a few further small spots of fluorescence, probably corresponding to cosmetic retouching in the lower part of the composition. Subject to the foregoing it is or opinion that this work appears to be in generally good condition.
Huile sur toile. L’œuvre est rentoilée le long des bords. L’œuvre est légèrement vernie. Du papier de bordage le long des tranches de la toile. Abrasion mineure due aux frottements du cadre associée à des zones d’usure, de possibles petits manques de peinture et des résidus de peinture dorée le long des bords. Deux usures de la toile vers le coin inférieur droit et un autre à l’extrémité du coin supérieur droit. Quelques réseaux de craquelures stables par endroits, principalement dans le ciel et dans les empâtements les plus épais, probablement inhérents à la technique sèche de l’artiste. De rares craquelures prématurées dans les pigments noirs de la tête du modèle au centre. De rares petits potentiels manques de peintures par endroits (principalement dans les arbres et vers le centre du pré). Au revers : trois petits patchs. Examiné à la lampe à ultraviolets : de rares passages de fluorescences correspondant aux résidus de peinture dorée susmentionnés et de rares autres petits points de fluorescence, correspondant probablement à de la retouche esthétique dans la partie inférieure de la composition. Sous réserve de ce qui précède et selon notre opinion, cette œuvre apparait en bonne condition générale.
