Christie's Milano è lieta di presentare questa collezione privata, che celebra le opere di arte italiana attraverso i secoli: dai dipinti antichi a opere del XX e XXI secolo, insieme a magistrali sculture italiane del XVIII, Maioliche, mobili italiani e francesi, e ancora un affascinante gruppo di bronzi cinesi e del sud est asiatico. Il risultato emana gioia tangibile, e rivela l’impegno di una mente straordinariamente curiosa.

Due sono i temi che contraddistinguono la collezione. Uno è l’amore per la natura morta: grazie all’ingegno e lavoro di ogni artista, anche gli oggetti più umili – un pugno di noci, una conchiglia, una brocca -  vengono elevati dal loro uso quotidiano e riempiti di significato, diventando magnifici ed universali. Le nature morte, soprattutto in epoca barocca, sono certamente prova della maestria di un artista, ma allo stesso tempo sono fonte di contemplazione, richiedono il silenzio, la concentrazione. Il secondo tema che emerge forte è quello del paesaggio, testimonianza della meraviglia del nostro mondo. Vedute della grandiosità di Roma o della ricercatezza di Venezia dimostrano cosa il genere umano è riuscito a creare, mentre viste della campagna francese o semplicemente di boschi ci rammentano la bellezza della natura poco o per nulla toccata dall’uomo.

La combinazione di questi due temi pittorici, assieme alle arti decorative e sculture cinesi, sono testimonianza del gusto curioso e avventuroso di un collezionista che non ha imposto limiti spaziali o temporali alla sua ricerca.

Christie’s Milan is delighted to present this private collection, which celebrates Italian works of art through the centuries: from Old Masters to 20^th and 21^st Century paintings, alongside Italian 18^th century sculpture, Maiolica, Italian and French furniture, and curiously a group of Chinese and South East Asian bronzes. The result radiates a palpable joy, and reveals the labours of a curious mind.

Two themes drive this collection. One is the love of still life: how through the work of an artist, even the humblest objects - some nuts, a shell, a jug - are elevated from everyday life, suddenly meaningful, significant, universal. Still lifes, especially in the Baroque era, are certainly proof of an artist's ability, but are also made for contemplation, for silence, facilitating focus. The second recurrent theme is landscape, the act of bearing witness to our world's magnificent beauty. Views of grandiose Rome and worldly Venice, show what mankind can achieve, whilst French countryside and woodland panoramas remind us how beautiful this world is when spared from human intervention.

The combination of these two themes in paintings together with the decorative arts and Chinese sculptures is a testimony to the inquisitive and adventurous taste of a collector who never stopped searching, whether near nor far.
