Sale Overview
Edmond Cormier-Thierry-Delanoue’s eclectic collection spans Old Master paintings, modern art, European sculptures and exceptional scientific objects. A lover of beautiful things, Delanoue dressed his space with the aim to create dynamic conversations among the works his owned. Expect to see a Roman marble statue juxtaposed with a 16th-century metalwork, a 17th-centuy Augsburg pendulum with a late 19th-century retracting automaton, or a Degas self-portrait in dialogue with one of Gauguin. His interests went far beyond the boundaries of classic and modern art to the intricate scientific instruments for measuring time, including a 17th-century Safavid astrolabe, an 18th-century equinoctial ring and a group of hourglasses from the same era. A superb group of highlights from this sale is on view at our Avenue Matignon galleries from 18–25 May.
