The design for this table is attributed to Francesco Antonio Franzoni (Italian 1734-1818). Franzoni was an important sculptor and restorer most well-known for his work in the Museo Pio-Clementino, the Vatican museum of antiquities. The present lot is designed directly after the table by Franzoni currently in the Museum housed in the Hall of Animals. Another example of this table of the same date range is in the Getty Center (93.DA.18). In addition to his notable restorations, he worked on prestigious building projects like the funerary monument to Princess Maria Flaminia Odescalchi-Chigi in S. Maria del Popolo.

Overall in good, decorative and sound condition. The stone with natural inclusions, light surface wear and minor abrasions, consistent with age and handling. With typical scattered small nicks, 'nibbles' and minor losses primarily to the edges. Each of the ram supports with some small scattered restorations, including a small loss to the interior corner of one base; on that same base, a repaired break to one ram's nose with associated small loss to the center and some infilled repairs; the other base with a repaired crack along the interior side, now with associated infill; and on that same base, a small loss to the top of one ram's ear. The base of each support with some discoloration and pitting, likely as a result of exposure to moisture. The marble top with further small 'nibbles' and minor losses to the extreme edges and corners. The underside of the marble top stamped in black ink '06481'.
