拍卖简介

This April, Christie’s launches The Collector as a global platform for connoisseurs and collectors of Decorative Arts, offered in tandem for the first time across our London, New York, and Paris sale sites. Brought to you as a three-part series, all lots open for bidding on 4 April and close consecutively by sale location on 18, 19, and 20 April, respectively. The Collector sale series includes important European, English and 19th century furniture, porcelain, silver, gold boxes and works of art dating from the 16th to 20th centuries.

Christie’s proudly presents this inaugural global sale series in collaboration with internationally renowned designers and co-authors of At The Artisan’s Table, Jane Schulak and David Stark. Skilfully combining a deep knowledge and appreciation of the decorative arts with a talent for creating whimsical, theatrical spaces, Jane and David have curated striking vignettes for each sale location. The London, New York, and Paris sales are brilliantly unified by fanciful room settings featuring a selection of highlights from each site placed against colourful trellised walls, innovatively employing a motif of classical architecture to produce images which challenge perceptions and give free rein to the imagination.

The New York edition features property from several notable private collections; highlights include a curated selection of English silver and furniture from Sugar Maple Farm, a Georgian-style equestrian estate in Dutchess County, New York, designed by Boris Baranovich Architects and interiors by Michael Krieger. There are also examples of rare Chinese Export porcelain from a distinguished American collection and a refined group of English furniture and decorative objects from a private Connecticut collection. Also on offer is a rich array of European furniture and silver from a private collection in Arlington, Virginia with impressive provenances such as a masterfully carved George II grained-pine pedestal from Wentworth Woodhouse, a Royal George II Silver-Gilt Salver given by King George II as a christening gift to George Greville, 2nd Earl of Warwick in 1746, and a Louis XV ormolu-mounted commode by Jacques Dubois, formerly in the collection of the Comte de Baudouin, Château de Cornillon, St.-Etienne, near Lyon, France. Pre-eminent craftsmen of the 19th Century round out the offerings, including a pair of rare Minton pâte-sur-pâte vases by Louis Solon, coromandel lacquer commodes by Antoine Krieger and Charles Bernal, and exotic objets d'art by Eugene Cornu and others.

Highlights will be on view in New York at our Rockefeller gallery from 10–18 April.
