Sale Overview

Following the successful offering of highlights from Le Jeune, A Collecting Legacy in the London October 2022 auctions, Christie’s is excited to present Le Jeune, A Collecting Legacy: The London No Reserve Edit.

The London No Reserve Edit presents an accessible opportunity for both new and seasoned collectors to acquire unique paintings, works on paper and sculptures as well as photographs and editions from one of the most important private Belgian collections. Assembled over three generations by Jacqueline and Mark Le Jeune and their descendants, the collection reflects a deep passion for the arts and close relationships with living artists in Belgium and abroad.

The French-Swiss artist couple Niki de Saint-Phalle and Jean Tinguely were some of the artists Jacqueline and Mark became particularly close to; the work on paper by De Saint-Phalle and Tinguely offered in this sale includes a personal dedication to the collectors. Jacqueline and Mark would often also host artists in their home, including Tracey Emin during her first trip over the channel from England. The sale features a set of three monoprints by Emin dedicated to the couple. The collection’s strong Belgian contingent is exemplified by works of Berlinde de Bruyckere, Luc Tuymans, Harold Ancart and Francis Alÿs.

Other highlights of this eclectic collection include striking paintings by Sascha Braunig, Georgia Gardner Gray and Mari Sunna, while works by British provocateurs Gilbert & George, Marc Quinn and Mat Collishaw are presented alongside exemplary prints by Louise Bourgeois, Victor Vasarely and Bernar Venet. Remarkable sculptures in the collection include a miniature Compression by César, a quirky ashtray by Sterling Ruby and one of Erwin Wurm’s iconic deformed houses.

With each lot offered at a starting bid of GBP 100, collecting exciting contemporary art with esteemed provenance has never been more accessible.

The online sale will be open for bidding 27 October – 10 November with a selection of highlights on view at Christie’s King Street from 3–10 November.
