A view of Westminster from the Thames; and A view of Lambeth Palace from the Thames

The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The relined canvases retain a good tension on their stretchers. The varnish has slightly discoloured but the pictures present well and the artist’s fluid technique remains appreciable .
Examination under ultra violet light confirms both pictures to be in a well preserved state. Some strengthening to the water in the lower centre of the Lambeth view is revealed, along with two small areas of restoration in the sky, upper left. In the Westminster view, some minor strengthening to the water in the lower left corner of the composition is revealed.
