The canvas is supported with a glue lining and the paint is stable on the support. Under natural light, the varnish is slightly cloudy in places. A repaired tear is visible at upper left in the sky and a craquelure is visible in some of the darker passages. Another repaired tear is visible below the faun at lower center, to the right of the dog. Strengthening is visible along the extreme edges. Under ultraviolet light, some 1 inch areas fluoresce over the clouds at upper left. Touches of strengthening fluoresce over Apollo and Ariadne’s bodies, as well as over the figure holding the cymbals, the foot of the figure with the snake, and over the figure holding the animal leg over his head. A few additional areas fluoresce. The painting may be displayed as is.
