The Negau helmet takes its name from the town of Zenjak, near Negau in Slovenia, where a large cache of helmets were found in 1812 (see P. Reinecke, “Der Negauer Helmfund,” in Bericht der Römisch-Germanischen Kommission, vol. 32, 1942, pp. 117-98).

Overall with a cleaned surface. Tears to the metal down the central rib, various tears along the lower edge, particularly visible on the interior. Separately attached vertical rim with a strip of lead infill visible encircling the helmet. One side attachment plate missing and crest attachment plate missing with darker patches where they would have been attached.
